24/3/2023 0 Comments It runsFinally re-installed all the ancillaries I removed from the engine in order to get at the mounts - and started her up. So was it worth it? Not sure. I tested it briefly with the cockpit roof closed and without the soft furnishings in place. At tick over the engine vibrates, it's a 'feature' of 3 cylinder engines they produce a 'rocking couple' fore and aft and I don't think it's much quieter. However running the engine at 2000rpm (cruising speed) it's a lot smoother and quieter. Once I've fettled the engine speed control and gear selector I might find a tick-over speed that's more comfortable. Also noticeable that things in the cabin don't vibrate as much as they used to, so that's a win.

20/3/2023 0 Comments Engine Mounts (fin)Well, about three months behind schedule but the engine mounts are fitted, adjusted and the engine/gearbox aligned with the propshaft which is reconnected. Amazing what one can achieve when the health issues relent. Still got the alternator to refit, then the sump drain pump. Then I can fit a new oil filter, refill with fresh engine oil and get her going again. The big question, will Seren be quieter and vibration-free after all the bother?
16/3/2023 0 Comments Oh dear...I finally got back to Seren today after weeks of bad weather, floods at Kelpie and my own ill-health. It seems last week's weather did for my neighbour. Made a mess of the landing stage too but fortunately the scaffold pole bent rather than pulling the whole thing down. That's the second boat to sink at Kelpie in the last few months. Time to move I think. I did manage to do a bit of work, mostly cleaning out the bilge under the engine. Still plenty to do.
